Verity Mod Status 401 Fix

Verity Mod status 401 usually means Verity JE reached its AI provider, but Groq, OpenRouter, or the configured route did not accept the credential. Do not replace the jar first. Confirm the provider, create or rotate one private key at the official dashboard, paste it only into the local setup, and retest with one short typed prompt before changing downloads, voice, or models.

Quick fix

Fix API connection failed 401 before changing the Verity file

Start with the key source

A Verity Mod API connection failed 401 message is normally later than a loader problem. A loader problem stops Minecraft from starting the right profile, loading Forge or NeoForge, or showing the mod at all. A 401 appears when the Java setup attempts an AI request and the selected provider says the credentials were not accepted. That is why another copy of verity-5.7.3.jar cannot fix the most common 401 cases.

The useful question is not "which mirror has a working Verity Mod download?" The useful question is "which provider did this local setup try to call?" Groq credentials come from Groq Console. OpenRouter credentials come from OpenRouter. A local Ollama route normally needs a running local service and model instead of a cloud API key. If the provider is unknown, return to the current Verity JE instructions or the setup video that matches your installed route before entering any key.

Use this order

  1. Stop repeated prompts so the same failed request does not hide the first useful log line.
  2. Write down provider, model, status code, and whether text ever worked in this session.
  3. Open the official provider dashboard in a browser you trust.
  4. Create or rotate exactly one key for the selected provider.
  5. Paste only the key value into the local Verity configuration.
  6. Remove quotation marks, leading spaces, trailing spaces, copied labels, and wrong fields.
  7. Restart Minecraft once, then test one short typed prompt before testing voice.

Provider map

Match the 401 to the right credential path

Selected route Likely 401 reason Best first check
Groq Missing, revoked, malformed, or wrong-provider key in the Groq field Create or rotate a key in Groq Console, paste it locally, and test one short text prompt.
OpenRouter OpenRouter key missing, expired, copied incorrectly, or not used with the OpenRouter route Confirm the OpenRouter account, key, credits or access, and exact model ID.
Ollama local Usually not a cloud 401 unless the profile is still pointing at a hosted provider Confirm the local endpoint, model name, and whether the setup actually selected Ollama.
Unknown route Copied setup advice does not match the installed Verity JE build or profile Identify the route first. Do not enter keys into random pages that mention Verity Mod.

Groq route

How to handle Groq 401 without leaking the key

401 means the request is not authenticated

For a Groq setup, status 401 means the request did not include valid authentication for Groq. Common player mistakes are simple: copying an old revoked key, adding a space at the beginning, including quotes, pasting the label instead of the key value, putting an OpenRouter key into the Groq field, or changing the wrong config file while Minecraft reads another profile. Fix those before changing the model or file.

If a key has appeared in a Discord message, Reddit post, YouTube comment, GitHub issue, stream, screenshot, launcher log, or support email screenshot, treat it as exposed. Rotate it in Groq Console. Do not ask another player to test the key for you, and do not paste it into a "checker" form. This website only explains the route; it never asks for or verifies private API keys.

Retest with one boring prompt

After replacing the credential, restart Minecraft once and send one short text prompt such as "say hi." Do not test voice, long roleplay, a crowded modpack, or repeated retries as the first check. A short text prompt tells you whether authentication works without quickly consuming a rate window. If the result changes from status 401 to status 429, the key is probably accepted and the next layer is provider quota. Move to the Verity Mod status 429 fix instead of creating more keys.

OpenRouter and local routes

Do not mix provider keys just because the error looks similar

OpenRouter uses its own account and model route

OpenRouter is not a backup Groq key. It has its own authentication header, key dashboard, account balance or access requirements, model IDs, and upstream routing behavior. A Verity Mod status 401 on an OpenRouter setup should send you to the OpenRouter key and model route, not to Groq Console. Likewise, a Groq setup cannot be fixed by pasting an OpenRouter token into a Groq field.

If OpenRouter returns a structured provider error after authentication works, read the exact model ID and provider message. A credential problem, a model-access problem, an out-of-credits problem, and an upstream rate limit are different fixes. Keep the Verity file stable while you separate those account-layer facts.

Ollama problems often are not API-key problems

Ollama is usually the local-service route. If a guide tells you to use Ollama, confirm the service is installed, running, reachable at the configured local address, and has the selected model pulled before diagnosing cloud credentials. If the local service is not listening, the symptom may be connection refused, timeout, blank reply, or a very slow response rather than a true hosted-provider 401.

If Ollama works in a terminal but Verity still fails, terminal success proves only that the local runtime and one model can answer. Minecraft may still be using a different model name, wrong local endpoint, old profile, or hosted provider route. Compare the exact local configuration before rotating Groq or OpenRouter keys.

Avoid false fixes

Things that usually make Verity Mod 401 harder to diagnose

Downloads

Replacing the jar first

A provider 401 usually appears after Verity JE has loaded far enough to call AI. Check the credential route before downloading again.

Security

Posting the key for help

Support needs provider, model, status code, time, and sanitized log text. Revoke any key that was visible in public.

Providers

Using the wrong key type

Groq and OpenRouter credentials are separate. Match the key to the provider selected in the local setup.

Retests

Changing too many variables

Change one key, restart once, and test one short typed prompt. Then move to model, quota, voice, or file checks only if needed.

Support-ready report

What to share if 401 stays after a fresh private key

Share evidence without secrets

If Verity Mod status 401 remains after one fresh private key, collect facts that help someone reproduce the route without seeing your credential. Share the edition, Verity JE version, loader, Minecraft version, provider, model name, exact status code, approximate time, and whether the same setup ever returned one text answer. Say whether the key was created at Groq or OpenRouter, but do not show the key value, partial key, dashboard screenshot, account email, or local file path.

A useful report is "Verity JE 5.7.3, Forge 1.20.1, Groq route, model name, status 401 at 18:20 UTC, fresh key created in Groq Console, text never answered." A weak report is "Verity Mod broken, I tried everything." The first report points to config loading, provider selection, or model setup. The second forces helpers to ask basic questions again.

When to leave the 401 page

Use the broader API connection failed guide if the code is 403, 404, 500, 502, 503, connection refused, blank reply, or no code at all. Use the status 429 page if the key starts working but the provider rate-limits the session. Use the voice troubleshooting page if text answers work but speech or audio output fails. Use the Java guide if Minecraft crashes before Verity can make an AI request.

Questions

Verity Mod status 401 FAQ

What does Verity Mod status 401 mean?

It usually means the selected AI provider did not accept the authentication credentials. The key may be missing, revoked, copied with extra characters, pasted into the wrong field, from the wrong provider, or not loaded by the active Minecraft profile.

Where do I get the API key?

Get it only from the official provider selected by your local setup. Groq users create keys in Groq Console. OpenRouter users create OpenRouter keys. Ollama users usually need a running local service rather than a cloud API key.

Can this site check my Groq or OpenRouter key?

No. This site does not ask for, store, test, or forward API keys. It is safer to diagnose by provider, status code, model name, and sanitized logs. Use the official provider dashboard for key creation and rotation.

Why did 401 become 429 after I changed the key?

That can be progress. The provider may now accept the key, then reject later prompts because a request, token, audio, model, daily, or account-level limit was reached. Continue with the status 429 route.
