How to Talk to Verity in Minecraft

First identify the Verity Mod project. Verity JE, Verity BE, and Verity - Bedrock Edition by PnTMC do not use one universal setup or chat rule. The correct phrase, distance rule, AI connection, and voice behavior depend on the file you installed.

Project map

Which Verity Mod interaction method applies?

Installed project Before talking How interaction starts
Verity JE, Project ID 1591438 Correct Forge or NeoForge profile plus configured Groq or Ollama route. Use the text or talk control provided by the installed build; test text before voice.
Verity BE, Project ID 1574632 Bedrock 26.30, active packs, Beta APIs, and the current connect step. Open chat and type Verity followed by what you want to say.
Verity - Bedrock Edition by PnTMC, Project ID 1575941 Matching add-on version with its packs active in the current world. Chat while Verity is on the ground; use Hey Verity to wake him in inventory.

Step zero

Identify the installed project before copying a command

The same character name hides different implementations

Open the project page or your downloaded filename and record the owner, Project ID, edition, and file version. For Java, the checked route is Verity JE by VarmiteYT, Project ID 1591438. For Bedrock, this guide tracks Verity BE by Undertaletalelover, Project ID 1574632, and the separate PnTMC add-on, Project ID 1575941. They are different projects, not interchangeable releases of one package.

This Verity Mod distinction explains many failed instructions. A Java player cannot use a Bedrock chat command to repair an AI provider. A PnTMC player should not assume Verity BE's remote connection or unlimited-distance chat rule applies. A Verity BE player should not copy the PnTMC inventory wake behavior and conclude the add-on is broken when it behaves differently.

Use a clean world or profile for the first conversation

Java users should launch with the matching loader and only required dependencies. Bedrock users should create a fresh test world with the selected behavior and resource packs active. Enable only the experiments named by that project's current instructions. A clean baseline removes unrelated chat mods, UI packs, server plugins, key conflicts, and old world settings from the test.

Wait for the character or box to finish loading before sending a message. Use one short factual prompt, such as a simple Minecraft question. Do not send a long roleplay paragraph as the first test. A short prompt makes it easier to tell whether chat routing, AI response, or voice output failed.

Java Edition

How to talk to Verity JE

Pass the AI connection test first

This Java Verity Mod uses an AI provider for its answers. The maintainer project currently links a general setup tutorial and a separate fully local Ollama tutorial. Configure the provider inside the mod settings or configuration route shown for your build. Keep API keys private. This website does not request, receive, or test keys.

Start with text. If a short typed prompt receives a coherent answer, the provider, model, and basic mod path work. If the log shows API connection failed, stop testing voice and use the status-code guide. A 401, 429, unavailable model, or local Ollama connection problem cannot be repaired by changing a microphone setting.

Then check the installed talk control

Control names and defaults can change between builds, so open Minecraft Controls and search for Verity or talk instead of relying on an old video's key. Remove conflicts if the same key is assigned to another mod. Use the interaction method shown in the maintainer tutorial for your current build and keep Verity loaded nearby while testing.

The Verity JE project says its AI supports all languages, but speech-to-text and text-to-speech were tested only in English. That means a non-English typed message may work even when spoken input or voice output does not. Test one English voice phrase before declaring the entire AI route broken, then check the operating system input device, Minecraft output device, and any required voice component.

Verity BE

Talk by typing Verity before the message

The current project documents an explicit chat prefix

This Bedrock Verity Mod tells players to talk by opening Minecraft chat and typing Verity followed by whatever they want to say. Its project description says distance does not matter for this route. A useful first test is Verity what biome am I in? or another short question. Wait for the response before sending another line.

Before that works, the same project requires the matching Bedrock build, Beta APIs under Experimental Toggles, active packs, and a debugger connect step. The current page tells players to use its tutorial or Discord for the exact connection command. Treat that command as changeable operational data. Recheck the maintainer page instead of copying an old server address from a repost.

Dots are a connection symptom, not a chat phrase problem

The Verity BE FAQ says an answer containing only ... can mean the debugger connect command was not run or something failed on the backend. It also says a missing dialogue box commonly means Beta APIs are disabled or the installed version is outdated. Recheck those two layers before importing the same file again.

If the project backend is unavailable, local changes cannot restore it. Confirm current status through the maintainer support route, record the time and exact symptom, and wait for an update. Do not install a random replacement package that promises a private backend. A different add-on may use a different architecture and should be evaluated as a separate project.

PnTMC Bedrock

Use Hey Verity when he is in your inventory

Ground and inventory behavior are different

The PnTMC project says you can chat with Verity when he is on the ground. If he is in your inventory, wake him by typing Hey Verity. The same instructions warn that Verity cannot hear you if you go too far away. Stay close for the first test and avoid assuming the unlimited-distance rule from the other Bedrock project applies here.

Ask one direct question and observe whether dialogue appears. If nothing happens, place Verity on the ground, move closer, repeat the wake phrase once, and confirm the correct behavior and resource packs are active. Test in a fresh world if an old save contains conflicting add-ons or stale pack versions.

Do not combine instructions from the two Bedrock projects

PnTMC's add-on and Verity BE have separate owners, Project IDs, files, update histories, and interaction notes. Keep the source page open while testing so the file and instructions stay paired. A phrase copied from another guide may appear plausible because both projects feature Verity, but it can send the player into the wrong troubleshooting path.

If you switch add-ons, use a separate test world. Removing one project's packs and enabling another in an existing story world can leave entities, scoreboards, scripts, or resources behind. A separate world also protects an important save from horror events or unexpected behavior while you learn the controls.

Symptom map

Why Verity does not answer

Java

API connection failed

Read the provider and status code. Fix the key, quota, model, network, or local Ollama service before voice.

Verity BE

Only saying dots

Recheck Beta APIs and the maintainer's current debugger connect step, then check backend status.

PnTMC

No inventory response

Use Hey Verity, move closer, or place him on the ground before testing chat again.

Voice

Text works but sound does not

The conversation path works. Check keybinds, microphone permission, TTS, output device, language, and dependencies.

Better test prompts

Ask questions that reveal which layer works

Use a short ladder of tests

First ask a simple factual question. Next ask a Minecraft context question. Finally test voice using the same short sentence that already worked as text. This ladder shows whether the character can receive a message, call its AI layer, preserve game context, and produce audio. If step one fails, longer prompts create more noise instead of more evidence.

Wait for each answer. Cloud providers can rate-limit rapid prompts, while local models may need time to load. Do not press the talk control repeatedly while an answer is pending. If Java stops after working briefly, record the status code. If Bedrock returns dots, record the project and connect state. Those are actionable facts.

Protect private information while testing

Do not ask the character to repeat passwords, account tokens, addresses, server credentials, or private details. AI providers may process prompt text according to their own policies, and multiplayer chat may be visible to other players or logs. Use harmless questions while verifying the setup.

Keep API keys inside the provider dashboard and local mod configuration. Do not paste them into Minecraft public chat, Discord messages, Reddit comments, screenshots, or this website. If a key has been exposed, revoke it at the provider, create a replacement, update the local configuration, and test again.

FAQ

Verity Mod talking questions

How do I talk to Verity in Minecraft Bedrock?

Check the project first. Verity BE says to type Verity followed by your message and says distance does not matter. The PnTMC add-on says to chat while Verity is on the ground, type Hey Verity when he is in inventory, and remain close enough to be heard.

Why does Verity only say dots?

The Verity BE project says dots may mean its debugger connect command was not run or the backend failed. Recheck Beta APIs, the current connection instructions, and maintainer status. Do not assume this diagnosis applies to the separate PnTMC project or Java.

Can Verity understand languages other than English?

The Verity JE page says AI text supports all languages, but speech-to-text and text-to-speech were tested only in English. Test typed chat separately from spoken input and audio output.

Why can I not talk to Verity in Java Edition?

Confirm the correct Verity JE file and loader, complete Groq or Ollama setup, and test one short typed prompt. If text works, inspect the current build's Controls entry, key conflicts, microphone permission, output device, voice dependencies, and English voice support.
